SPLLOC 1 Loch Ness narrative task

This is a new version of a narrative task developed and used in previous research on L2 French beginners and intermediate learners.

For the SPLLOC 1 project the "Monster" story was rewritten in formats suitable to be used with beginner and intermediate learners. As a stimulus the learner is presented with a cartoon story about the "Monster of Loch Ness" (the pictures are used with permission of Oxford University Press). The investigator narrates the story using a scripted Spanish version and the learner follows the cartoon pictures as they listen. The learner then re-tells the story with the support of the pictures.

El monstruo del Lago Ness, ¿verdad o mentira?

Esta es la historia de una familia que está de vacaciones en Escocia. En la foto puedes ver a la abuela, a la madre y a los tres niños. Están en un lago que se llama el Lago Ness.

Mientras están de vacaciones en el lago, la madre lee un libro y la niña pesca con su hermano ...¿ves las cañas en el lago? La abuela y el niño pintan un dibujo.

La abuela pinta un monstruo. "¡Mira el dibujo de la abuela!", dice el niño, "¡Es el monstruo del lago Ness!"

Después de comer, la madre va a la ciudad. Va en el coche y se lleva al niño pequeño. "Adiós", dice la abulea. "Adiós", dicen los niños también.

Mientras está en la ciudad, la madre va de compras y mira las tiendas .
